Valpariso & Santiago

2013 - The ship berthed at the port of Valpariso on the the central coast of Chile. We had an excursion from there into the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile. We stopped off the Presidential Palace the scene of the bloody coup when President Allende was overthrown by General Pinochet, setting in place many years of oppression and disappeared people. The glasses were worn by Allende when he was murdered in the palace
The photos show the modern city as well as the historical centre with the Cathedral as well as the high peaks of the Andes barely visible through the smog
The port of Valapariso is very busy with a productive hinterland of vineyards and the odd Copper Mine, the major export earner of Chile
