Puerto Montt

Puerto Montt Chile

We sailed into the port city of Puerto Montt in Southern Chile on the 25th of February 2013. The port is the gateway to the lakes region of Chile. The local scenery is dominated by the symmetrical volcanic cone of Mount Osorno. We travelled to Lake Todos los Santos, otherwise known as Lake Esmerelda via the the town of Puerto Varas and the southern shore of lake Llanguihe. The forests are dominated by Nothofagus or Southern Beech similar to the Southern forests of New Zealand. The farmland is fertile and similar to part of New Zealand as well

The departure from port afforded views of the Andes as they stretched southwards
