Northern Ireland

We were meant to call into two ports in Northern Ireland. We were meant to berth at Londonderry but the narrow channel and low High Tension lines caused the Captain to decide to anchor off Greencastle in Donegal in Ireland and to lighter and bus into Londonderry and beyond. The second berthing was in Belfast was a substitute port instead on Galway which we could not get to.

Belfast Harbour is a busy port and proud of being where the Titanic was built. The Titanic Museum has excellent Audio Visual displays of how the ship was built. Janet is standing by the Titanic slipway

The history of "the troubles" is still very evident in Belfast with the two communities of Catholics around Falls Road and the Protestants around Shankhill separated by the Peace Wall. It is all still a bit scary

Greencastle Londonderry

We dropped Anchor at Greencastle and drove into Londonderry then onwards along the Antrim Coast heading towards Ballintoy and Ballycastle

The highlight of course was the visit to the Giants Causeway. The Dunluce Castle is one of the most notable ruins in Ireland. The Royal Portrush Golf Club is famous with those that follow the game
