Jersey - Channel Islands
We sailed into the port of St Helier on the 30th of July 2016. The ship cannot berth there so we travelled to shore on the ships lighters. Elizabeth Castle guards the entrance to the port
The Channel Islands were the only part of the UK occupied during the Second World War. The German Occupation heavily fortified the Islands but they were bypassed during the the Invasion at Normandy and only liberated at the end of the war on the 12 May 1945 . The beach at St Brelades Bay is well serviced with hotels
We took things fairly easily and just looked around the town. Very pleased to see you can get a Flat White Coffee (being enjoyed by Janet) in the UK which is a step forward. Still a challenge with Americans and the crew on the ship. Bob is standing at the Liberation memorial
There is a very high tidal range and boats can only get in and out of the boat harbour a few hours each side of high tide. It is obviously a popular stop off point for boats cruising down from England and across from France
